About the project

Goals: 
    - To provide the platform administrative staff with an easy and intuitive way to edit all the data on the website

    - To provide students and job seekers with a way to find out what careers best suit them.

    - To enable students and job seekers to get career advice.

    - To enable training institutions to register on the platform and edit their training programmes 

Solutions: 
    - Creation of an all-in-one web platform that facilitated the different users of the system (Students / Job seekers, Training providers, Career Advisors, Administrative staff)

    - Developed a RIASEC self assessment quiz which recommended job roles to students and job seekers based on their RIASEC profiles  

    -Developed a career advisory portal that facilitated bi directional communication between career advisors and students / job seekers.

    - Developed a training provider portal that allowed an institute to edit their listings in the system and associate their training programmes to the various job roles in the system

Results / Impact: 

    - Complete ready-to-use platform that is user friendly for not only the end user but also the administrative staff to maintain the platform content via the back-end.

Student Portal

The student portal grants a user the ability to register on the website. browse the various job listings and see details about jobs such as salary data

Career Advisory Portal

The career advisory portal facilitates ease of communication between career advisors and students / job seekers without revealing confidential details such as phone numbers.


Career Recommender System

The career recommender system is powered by the RIASEC tool which gives the students / job seekers their top 3 roles they would be best suited for

Training Provider Portal

The training provider portal allows various training providers to add new training programmes and associate their programmes to the job roles listed in the system.

Challenges

The challenges faced during the development of this project are:

- Development of a career recommender system

- Necessity for the back-end to be easy to navigate


Development of a career recommender system

One of the issues faced within this project was the development of the career recommender system. Sundae Bytes overcame this issue by having a number of meetings with the wider stakeholder team to agree on the various parameters of the career recommender system such as:

  1. The weightings of the questions on the RIASEC self assessment quiz. 
  2. The methodology behind how each job role should be tagged
  3. The algorithm logic to provide the core functionality to the recommender system


Necessity for the back-end to be easy to navigate

Intuitive and effortless.  At Sundae Bytes, we believe that no matter how 'functional' a system is, if it does not cater to the user experience then it is not a well designed system. In this project, it was necessary to enable a wide array of functionality such as Email Marketing, Course Content Administration, Event Management,  Product Promotions, Coupon Discounts, Accounting and Invoice generation and others. One of the challenges we faced was the design and layout of the system that makes accessing all these functionalities intuitive and effortless to our client. We overcame this issue by having multiple meetings with our in-house UI/UX department. The Head of User Interface and User Experience was able to recommend various layouts which were then implemented by the software development department.
